National Workshop on Concepts and Applications: Recent events included a three-day national workshop on “Concepts and Applications of Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)” organised by Aligarh Muslim University’s University Sophisticated Instruments Facility (USIF). The goal of the workshop was to educate novice and intermediate users in the scientific, medical, and life science communities about important insights and real-world information in the area of LC-MS.

Fundamental LC-MS concepts, practical methods, applications, and the most recent advancements in the area were the focus of the National Workshop. Participants used it as a platform to gain a thorough understanding of LC-MS and its numerous applications, which include quantifying proteomes, drug metabolites, nucleotides, and derivatives in a range of biological samples, including bacterial cells, proteins, natural products, and enzyme structures.

Prof. S.K. Singh, former vice chancellor of H.N.B. Garhwal University in Uttarakhand, was the chief guest. He emphasised the significance of the instrument centre at AMU and the essential role that high-tech instruments play in improving the calibre of research and instruction. He praised USIF’s initiatives to improve already-in-place machinery. Prof. Veena Maheshwari, dean of the faculty of medicine, spoke in-depth about LC-MS and its numerous uses. Former Department of Applied Chemistry Chairman Prof. Mohammad Mobin discussed his lengthy history of involvement with USIF. Dr. M. Wasi Khan, who led the opening ceremony and gave an overview of the workshop’s goals.

In his remarks during the opening session, Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, the workshop’s organising chairman and coordinator of USIF, emphasised the importance of training programmes for the professional progress of young researchers, students, and educators. Prof. Tabassum gave a summary of the session, described the resources available through USIF, and presented information regarding upcoming programmes.

Participants in the workshop got the opportunity to interact with leading researchers and specialists in the field of LC-MS over the course of three days. The programme included expert lectures and practical training sessions led by Sciex specialists. Participants took part in equipment demos and hands-on training exercises. During the concluding session, all attendees received certificates of participation.

In the final session, Prof. Wasim Ahmad, the former dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, gave advice to the students and aspiring researchers on how to make the best use of USIF’s different equipment.

It was a productive event that advanced understanding in this important scientific area.
