NEET PG 2023 date: NBE tells SC if NEET PG postponed no further date available

The Supreme Court clarified that it is not issuing any orders. However, it asked Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Aishwarya Bhati, who was representing NBE, to find a solution to the petitioners' issue.

NEET PG 2023 date: The National Board of Examinations (NBE) informed the Supreme Court on Friday that approximately 2.09 lakh candidates have registered for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-PG) 2023, which is scheduled to be held on March 5, and that if the exam is postponed, there may be no alternate date available in the near future. These arguments were made before a bench of Justices SR Bhat and Dipankar Datta, who were hearing two petitions regarding the postponement of the NEET-PG exam.

The Supreme Court clarified that it is not issuing any orders. However, it asked Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Aishwarya Bhati, who was representing NBE, to find a solution to the petitioners’ issue. The petitioners have requested a postponement of the examination, claiming that the counselling will take place after August 11, as the internship deadline has been extended until then.

“Those who are awaiting this (examination) are suffering from mental torture,” the bench stated. It could be a mental tragedy for him.

NEET PG postponement: Supreme Court Seeks NBE Response

When the bench asked how many candidates would be affected by this, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, who was representing the petitioners, said the apex court could summon the NBE for clarification.

Later in the case, ASG Bhati appeared and told the bench, “I have some information about (this) exam.” According to Bhati, approximately 2.09 lakh candidates have registered for the exam, a technology partner has been hired to conduct the exam, and all preparations have been completed.

“If the exam is postponed, there may not be any alternate exam date available in the near future, as the technology partner may not be available,” he said, adding that the authorities will stick to the schedule set by the Supreme Court.

Sankaranarayanan told the bench that while 13 petitioners had approached the Supreme Court, the issue they raised affected approximately 45,000 candidates. He stated that the time between the March 5 exam and the counselling would be more than five months.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who is representing the petitioners, stated that the problem arose because different states have different internship programmes. “We want answers,” the bench told the ASG. What is the solution to this problem? We are not passing any kind of order. We’ll keep it open. You bring the figures. The bench scheduled a hearing on the matter for February 27.
