New Law scholarship by UK: Depending on the candidate’s selected programme, a grant of up to £1,558 (Rs164 lakh) will be awarded.

Open to All Scholarship is introduced by the Law Training Centre to eliminate financial barriers to legal education.

Law Training Centre, a pioneer in online legal education, has announced the introduction of its new ‘Open to All Scholarship’ on 1 August 2023, which aims to make a legal profession accessible to people of all backgrounds.

The scholarship is available to international pupils from any country, including India. This allows Indian students to study from home and qualify to practise law in the UK while still in India.

The new scholarship will be available to students who wish to enrol in the CILEX, CLC, and NALP programmes in addition to the Notarial Academic Training Course. Anyone wishing to qualify as a solicitor by completing the SQE1 or SQE2 can apply for the Access To Law SQE Scholarship, which has already been awarded to 97 applicants and is valued at nearly £100,000; no applicant has yet been denied.

Depending on their selected programme, recipients of the ‘Open to All Scholarship’ will receive a grant of up to £1,558 (Rs 164 lakh).

In keeping with the principle of making the scholarship “open to all,” the application process has been designed with applicant convenience in mind, unlike many other scholarships. Eve Dullabh, co-founder and director of Education at Law Training Centre, commented on this decision by saying, “We’ve personally experienced how intrusive many scholarship and bursary applications are, which can be discouraging, so we wanted to take a completely different approach.” As a result, there are no deadlines, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

There are no eligibility requirements for the scholarship, so long as the applicant has not previously received one of Law Training Centre’s other scholarships.

When asked about the decision to allow international students to apply for the scholarship, Dino Dullabh, co-founder and director of Strategy at Law Training Centre, stated, “We recognise that a large number of international students wish to enrol in our courses, and although we’ve always kept the prices of our courses as low as possible, we know that the cost of an English qualification can be prohibitive for many. We wanted this scholarship to assist these students so that ambitious and skilled individuals in places like India can create a better career regardless of their financial situation.”

The announcement comes after the Bar Council of India, The Bar Council of England and Wales, and the Law Society of England and Wales signed a memorandum of understanding in June to strengthen cooperation and legal exchange. As part of the transition, it was recently announced that English and Welsh solicitors may practise home jurisdiction law in India, and vice versa.
