Odisha govt sanctions Rs 2.49 crore
Odisha govt sanctions Rs 2.49 crore: Thursday, the state government of BHUBANESWAR approved Rs 2.49 crore for the reconstruction of Bahanaga High School, which was temporarily converted into a mortuary following the June 2 train accident. Recently, a portion of the school has been demolished.
The chief minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the release of funds for the development of the institution. According to official sources, this funding came from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in Odisha.
On June 9, the government authorities demolished a portion of the high school that had been used as a temporary mortuary to store approximately 250 bodies of the June 2 train crash victims before they were transferred to various mortuaries in response to requests from frightened students, teachers, and locals.
Previously, Naveen had requested that the Balasore district collector submit a detailed plan for the construction of a new school structure as a government 5T model school. A team of senior officers, including the chief secretary, questioned parents, teachers and students about the school building.
Immediate after the train accident, limbless and headless corpses were recovered from the mangled coaches of the two passenger trains and stored in the six classrooms and dining hall of the school located 500 metres away from the accident site. The district administration was compelled to demolish and rebuild a portion of the school because so many students and instructors avoided attending.
The school reopened on Wednesday following the conclusion of the summer break. Many parents dropped off their children at school, as opposed to the past when children would arrive alone. Before classes began, a yagna was performed for the serenity of mind of the students. According to sources, only 112 of the 556 pupils enrolled in Classes I through X were present on the first day of school.
