OJEE 2023 Medical engineering counselling process to start by June last week

The authorities had intended to begin the process in the first week of this month, but the delay in receiving the seat matrix necessitated a delay.

OJEE 2023 Medical engineering: Last week in June, Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) officials under the Department of skill development and technical education (SDTE) will begin the counselling process for medical and engineering seats in higher education institutions in the state.

The authorities had intended to begin the process in the first week of this month, but the delay in receiving the seat matrix necessitated a delay.

Although the results of the National Eligibility-cumEntrance Test (NEET) were released on June 13, the results of the JEE (Main) were released on April 29. When queried about the delay in beginning OJEE engineering counselling, OJEE chairman Pravin Kumar Kar stated that they must first obtain the seat matrix (finally approved seats at technical colleges) before beginning the counselling procedure.

“According to the procedure, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will provide the state government with information regarding final approved seats. Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) will also provide institutions with a no objection certificate (NOC) for seats approved by AICTE. The seat matrix is then presented to us. After receiving the seat matrix, we will promptly begin the counselling procedure,” he continued.

Regarding medical counselling, Kar stated that the Directorate of medical education and Training (DMET) will provide them with a seat matrix in order to initiate the counselling procedure. “We will receive the seat matrix shortly, and tentatively begin the counselling process by the last week of June,” he added.
In Odisha, counselling was conducted for over 41,000 engineering seats last year. After OJEE receives the seat matrix, the total number of available seats for this year will be displayed.

Similarly, OJEE will provide counselling for 85 per cent of the state’s 1,800 MBBS seats. In addition to counselling at the national level, the OJEE will conduct counselling for eleven government and two private medical colleges in the state. It will only allocate 85% of MBBS/BDS seats to medical and dental schools, leaving 15% for the all-India quota. Similarly, 15 per cent of seats in private medical and dental colleges have been reserved under the NRI quota, according to sources.

This year, the state government will admit 100 MBBS students to the Saheed Rendo Majhi medical college and Hospital in Bhawanipatna. This college has received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to begin admitting students for the 2023–2024 academic year.
