Pingali Venkayya Birth Anniversary: Today is the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, the designer of the national flag tricolor and the great freedom fighter. Pingali Venkaiah, who conceived the national flag, was born on 02 August 1878 at Bhatlapenumuru, Machilipatnam in present-day Andhra Pradesh. Venkaiah came in contact with Gandhiji during the freedom movement and in 1921 he prepared the national flag of India which could unite all the countrymen together. Venkaiah studied all the flags of the world from 1916 to 1921 for this. In 1931, the Indian National Congress added a white stripe and Dharma Chakra (Ashok Chakra) to this flag and on 22 July 1947 it was selected for the national flag.

Pingali Venkaiah, the creator of the national flag tricolor symbolizing the integrity and self-respect of the country, was a geologist. He was also a lecturer at Andhra Pradesh National College.

Pingali Venkaiah worked to unite the nation with the colors of patriotism. Pingali spoke the Japanese language with a lot of fluency. Many times people also called him as Japan Venkaiah.

During his youth, Pingali was sent to South Africa for war as a soldier of the British Indian Army. There he was influenced by the spirit of nationalism.

– Pingali Venkaiah prepared many designs of the national flag to bind the people of the nation in the thread of unity. He also made a deep study of the flags of other countries. In the year 1921, at the meeting of the Indian National Congress, Mahatma Gandhi approved one of his designs. The design had a green and red stripe and Gandhi’s spinning wheel in the middle. On the suggestion of Gandhiji, he included a white stripe in the flag.

The Pingali flag was used informally in Congress meetings from 1921 to 1931.

The Indian National Congress formally recognized the tricolor tricolor in the 1931 session. It had saffron, white and green colours.

On 4 July 1963, Shri Venkaiah said goodbye to the world.

The Government of India issued a postage stamp in his memory in 2009. This time also the central government has decided to issue a postage stamp in his honor.

In 2014, the Vijayawada station of All India Radio was named after him.
