The worried student alerted the university administration to the bribe demand made by the accused instructor
Punjabi University Assistant Professor Caught Red-Handed: On Tuesday, administrators at Punjabi University Patiala detained an assistant professor (ad hoc) for reportedly asking a BA final-year student taking the English course for “cash for marks.”
The worried student alerted the university administration to the bribe demand made by the accused instructor, who was working at the university’s affiliated Desh Bhagat college Baradwal, Dhuri in the Sangrur district. The action was then initiated. Authorities at the university were notified that the student was a regular student at the institution that is linked with it in Dera Bassi.
According to university authorities, a team made up of security guards and representatives from the examination department travelled to the Patiala city old bus terminal where the instructor had gone to see the student and show him his answer sheet in an effort to bring clarity to her crime of paying students for their grades.
The assistant professor allegedly wanted Rs 7000 from the student in order to get him passing grades in the BA Final English subject, according to university officials.
“This year’s test took place in April. When responding to a question that was based on a profile, the student included his phone number on the answer sheet. A student turned up the phone records to the university’s administration, who then put together a team and fired the offending professor. The university team also recorded a video of the incident where the instructor was being disciplined; she had driven up to the student in a car with her son and husband, according to a university official.
