Qatar University team wins Sir Syed Memorial International Debate

Hansraj College team with Khush Dembla and Deepansh Jawrani as members finished second, while the Doon University team of Vidushi Nautiyal and Tanisha Rawat was placed third.

The Qatar University team comprising Fatima Nazar and Abdul Quddos Abdul Basith (Best speaker) won the two-day long, ‘Sir Syed Memorial International Debate’ on the motion, ‘This House believes that Global Cultural Homogeneity is Inevitable’ in the English category. The contest was organized by the University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Lucknow University team of Arpit Katiyar and Akshay Pratap Singh triumphed in the Hindi category. Doon University and its team members Ayush Rayal (Best speaker) and Rohit Singh Rawat secured the second place with University of Jammu team of Harsimrat Kour and Priyatosh Dev at the third position.

Only vaccinated international students to get entry into AMU

In the Urdu debate, MAJU team and its members, Ehtesham ul Haque and Mohd Khalid were declared the winners. Faizan Mursil (Best speaker) and Md Shams Tabrez of JMI stood second and Abida Fatima and Imrana of St. Jones College finished at the third place.

Overall 80 speakers and 40 teams from across the country and abroad presented discourses on opposing viewpoints in the recently concluded, two-day long debate contest. AMU alumnus, Tariq Chauhan (Co-Founder and CEO, EFS Facilities Services Group, UAE) sponsored the cash prizes for the winners.

“Three finalists teams each in the English, Hindi and Urdu categories reached the final round after debating on ‘This House believes that all International Organisations (political, economical, or security-related) have lost their Relevance in the Present Political and Economic Global Order’ in the preliminary stage. The panel of judges included Prof Arshi Khan, Dr Aftab Alam, Tanzil Rahman, Dr Deepshika Singh and Dr Pushker Pandey, Prof Ved Prakash, Dr Tarushikha Sarvesh, Danish Iqbal and Prof K M Baharul Islam, Dr Tahseen Raza, Dr Areeba Shabbir, Dr Fauzia Faridi, Mohamad Asjad Husain, Rabia Omar, Riad Azam, ” said Dr Sadaf Fareed (President, University Debating and Literary Club).

Delivering a talk on ‘Globalisation and Homogenisation of Culture’, Prof K M Baharul Islam (IIM Kashipur) discussed the increasingly homogenised popular culture and common ideals and values.

Prof F S Sherani, (Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University) spoke on rich debate culture at AMU.

Dr Sadaf Fareed (President, University Debating and Literary Club) delivered the welcome address.

Aafia Rizvi, Shoeb Hashmi and Abdullah Parwaiz extended the vote of thanks.
