On January 26, 1950, India became a full republic. As a result, every year on January 26th, the national holiday Republic Day is observed. On January 26, 1950, the first Republic Day was observed. This was the day when we began to proclaim that we Indians have our own constitution and laws, and that we are completely free of British rule.
