Short-term training programme held on ‘Infrastructure Safety Auditing System’

Engineer Manish Bharti from Cortex Solution in New Delhi discussed the cost-related aspects of diagnosing structures utilising a variety of tools and repair/retrofitting processes.

Infrastructure Safety Auditing System: In collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management, which is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Government of India, the Department of Civil Engineering, Z.H. College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University organised a 3-day Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on “Infrastructure Safety Auditing System” as part of the G20 sub-theme, “Disaster Risk Reduction”.

The chief guest and vice chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, spoke at the opening ceremony and addressed the nation’s infrastructure’s impact on health and safety. He stated that in order to bridge the gap between construction and geospatial technology and make the buildings more durable, the function of civil engineers needs to be matched with other related disciplines.

He brought up the building stocks on the AMU campus, some of which had outlived their intended lifespans, and stated that it was vital to determine how safe they were. He praised NIDM for providing financial support to AMU and expressed hope that the STTP will foster fruitful dialogue amongst professionals, including the university’s and PWD’s engineers.

The program’s theme was introduced by Prof. Chandan Ghosh, the NIDM convener, who also briefly discussed the organization’s activities. He talked about the infrastructure rating system used in the USA since 1988, where the expertise of civil engineering professionals is highly valued.

He stated that because there are still procedural holes and gaps in the civil engineering projects today, it is imperative to give the health evaluation of built-up facilities first priority in the event of a pre and post catastrophic event. He emphasised the importance of implementing AI-enabled designs and a construction supervision portal.

Engineer Manish Bharti from Cortex Solution in New Delhi discussed the cost-related aspects of diagnosing structures utilising a variety of tools and repair/retrofitting processes. He went into more detail about the site-specific case studies that the civil engineers demand.

The department’s chairman, Prof. I.H. Farooqui, had earlier welcomed the visitors and gone through the program’s goals.

The honorees included Prof. M. Altamush Siddiqui, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and Prof. M.M. Sufyan Beg, Principal of ZHCET.
