Swachhta Pakhwada observed at AMU with commitment

Vice-Principal Mohd Javed Akhtar shed light on the significance of cleanliness, stating that a clean body, mind, and spirit are vital to our survival.

Swachhta Pakhwada: During the week of September 1-15, the schools, colleges, and departments of study at Aligarh Muslim University organised numerous programmes and events as part of “Swachhta Pakhta,” a nationwide sanitation campaign. The events conducted during this period included a Pledge-taking ceremony, cleanliness activities, and awareness programmes such as talks, essay contests, and street plays.

The teaching and non-teaching personnel at the Faculty of Law, along with the students, took the Swachhata Pledge and participated in the campus-wide cleanliness initiative.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor M.Z.M. Nomani, emphasised the significance of hygiene in all Indian cultures. He deliberated on Mahatma Gandhi’s exhortation that ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ and discussed Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s observations related to the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.

The goals and objectives of Swachhata Pakhtada were outlined by Dr. Zeba Azmat, Incharge, Land and Garden and Conservation, Faculty of Law.

The Department of Geology participated in the cleanliness campaign by cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and the adjacent area.

Prof. Kr. Farahim Khan, chairman of the department, urged the faculty members and students to assist in maintaining cleanliness in the department and its surrounding areas, and to use their free time to disseminate the message of cleanliness throughout society.

At the Department of Urdu, the Swachhata Pakhwad was observed by staff and students engaging in cleanliness-related activities.

Prof. Qamrul Huda Faridi, department chairman, emphasised the importance of maintaining a tidy department, neighbourhood, and nation.

The Department of Social Work, in conjunction with the Abdul Baseer Khan High School, hosted a Poster Contest on the subject of “Swachh Bharat.”

Later, a cleanliness campaign was conducted on school grounds, engaging students and faculty in the upkeep of the environment.

Cleanliness Campaign

Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, chairman of the Department of Social Work, stated that this collaborative Swachhata activity will encourage student participation in community service.

Together with other instructors, Dr. Saba Hasan, Vice Principal of A.B.K. High School (Girls), participated in the joint programme. Mr. Mohd Uzair, from the Department of Social Work, coordinated the activities pertaining to hygiene.

At the Department of Linguistics, a cleanliness campaign was conducted with office staff, students and research scholars carrying out cleaning of the classrooms, lawns and adjoining areas. Dr. Pallav Vishnu emphasised the importance of maintaining a pure environment and contributing to India’s progress.

In order to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases on the university campus, the University Health Office conducted a special sanitation campaign that included cleaning drains and nalas, trimming wild plants and shrubs, and spraying anti-larva liquid. During this time, fogging was also performed in residential halls, departments, and offices.

Mr. Faisal Nafis, the principal of S.T.S. School, administered the Swachhata Pakhwada Pledge to students and faculty during the morning assembly in order to promote hygiene. He urged them to maintain a high level of personal hygiene, keep their surroundings tidy, and act rationally to protect the environment.

Dr. Sadat Suhail delivered a speech on the significance of sanitation, emphasising the “Waste to Wealth” Swachhta theme for the year.

The students and faculty then took an e-Pledge to dedicate themselves to the Swachhata mission and participated in a massive campus-wide sanitation initiative.

Teachers and students at the Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged took an oath to keep the school and its environs clean and to spread the Swachhta message throughout society in order to make India a true Swachh Bharat.

The students also gave speeches on the harms caused to environment by the plastic and they exhorted the people to stop using plastic in any manner.

Dr. Naila Rashid, the school’s principal, exhorted everyone not to use plastic in daily life and to be mindful of personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.

In addition to the principal, Dr. Mohd Alamgir, administering the Swachhta pledge, pupils at AMU City Girls High School staged a “Nukkad Natak” on “Swachhta.”

In his speech, Dr. Alamgir emphasised the importance of hygiene to a healthy body and mind, citing it as one of the most crucial factors.

Ms. Sahar Naqvi encouraged people to stop using plastics by holding a poster-making activity in the school with the message “Say No to Plastic.” Saniya, Subiya Khan, and Alisha Zaheer won first, second, and third place, respectively, in the Poster Design Contest.

The pupils of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School, led by their principal Mr. Tanveer Nabi, organised a Swachhta rally from the school grounds and participated in the cleaning of nearby areas, ranging from the exhibition ground to Ragvevir Puri.

Mr. Nabi emphasised the significance of cleanliness in everyday life and urged the people to routinely clean their homes and surrounding areas while observing safe waste disposal practises. According to him, cleanliness is the foundation of good health, and regular cleansing helps prevent the spread of disease.
