TE Connectivity Partners with HelpAge India to Enhance Mobile Healthcare Programme: TE Connectivity (TE), a global leader in connectors and sensors, has partnered with HelpAge India, a prominent nonprofit, to expand its Mobile Healthcare Programme in Pune. The second Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU) was established in the Shirwal industrial district of Pune. TE will provide the necessary financial support for the expansion of the healthcare programme.

“Our partnership with HelpAge India improves access to healthcare services, particularly for those residing in remote areas of Pune. With this initiative, TE intends to help bridge the gap between healthcare and accessibility, ensuring that quality medical care reaches every corner of the city, according to TE India’s managing director and general manager, Vishwanath S. “We introduced our first mobile healthcare unit in 2018 to a very positive reception from the community. We required an immediate upgrade in order to meet the requirements of the locals as this initiative gained popularity in the villages.”

The new mobile healthcare unit will be outfitted with semi-advanced life support apparatus and will operate in designated villages Monday through Friday with the assistance of the HelpAge team. TE and HelpAge India will organise routine health awareness camps, daily routine checkups in the villages, and the distribution of free medication. The programme will attempt to reach roughly 23 communities in the region.

HelpAge’s mobile healthcare programme has been supported by TE since 2018, providing assistance to senior communities in the Shirwal-Pune region and the adjacent areas. Mobile healthcare programmes spare the elderly from lengthy hospital lines as well as transportation and medication expenses. Targeting the elderly, their families, and carers, the programme will not only provide free treatment and medications, but also rudimentary diagnostics, home visits by doctors, and counselling for patients. Beneficiaries will be furnished with health cards, and treatment records will be maintained.

“The currently functioning MHU in the Pune-Shirwal region serves 13 villages and 17,000 elders annually since 2018, a total of approximately 50,000 treatments, the majority of whom are workers or elderly individuals who work to support their families. With the second MHU vehicle, which is also supported by TE Connectivity, HelpAge will reach an additional 23 villages and double the number of treatments, according to Rohit Prasad, the chief executive officer of HelpAge India. “The primary healthcare centre is sometimes located in a remote location, making it difficult for elderly factory workers and other senior citizens who do not work to access it. The new MHU van, outfitted with doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel, will bridge this divide by providing vulnerable seniors with doorstep healthcare support. We are appreciative of TE Connectivity’s unwavering support for our healthcare programmes benefiting disadvantaged members of the community.”

Since 1982, HelpAge has operated the largest mobile healthcare initiatives in Asia. With the inclusion of the new programme, the total number of MHUs in HelpAge India’s nationwide network will reach 160. Each year, the MHUs provide medical aid and treatment to over 4 lakh elderly individuals and their communities. The new fleet of MHUs would serve 23 new locations, bringing the total number of locations served to over 2,100 in 22 states.
