University of Warwick nominated for University of the Year in the UK Social Mobility Awards

The winners of this year's event will be determined by an independent judging council comprised of prominent business, nonprofit, and government figures.

University of Warwick: The UK Social Mobility Awards, 2023 have nominated the University of Warwick for University of the Year. Social mobility refers to a change in a person’s socioeconomic status, which is associated with equal opportunity. This year’s shortlist acknowledges the University of Warwick’s dedication to broadening participation.

The UK Social Mobility Awards recognise and honour British organisations that are advancing social mobility within their own workforce and beyond. The SOMOs were the first national awards dedicated to social mobility, which seeks to raise awareness of social mobility by showcasing the innovative work of forward-thinking organisations working to improve it. They were organised by the charity for social change Making The Leap.

The winners of this year’s event will be determined by an independent judging council comprised of prominent business, nonprofit, and government figures. Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, Lord Lieutenant of London, chairs the judging jury.The winners will be announced at a live awards ceremony on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

In the future, we will commit to advancing social mobility further and leading the way in demonstrating the contribution of higher education to this national effort.

The Chief Executive Officer of Making The Leap, Tunde Banjoko OBE, stated, “I am so delighted with the response to the 2023 UK Social Mobility Awards. Social mobility is an increasingly important issue in our society, and the SOMOs were created to encourage UK organisations whose primary business is not social mobility to contribute to its solution. The diversity and calibre of this year’s submissions indicate that British businesses are up to the challenge.”
