World Suicide Prevention Day: Aligarh Muslim University’s Department of Psychiatry and Department of Community Medicine co-hosted a World Suicide Prevention Day awareness programme at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) in Jawan.
Prof. Saira Mehnaz (Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine) spoke on “Suicide Prevention: A Community Approach” and emphasised the importance of family, friends, and peers in assisting those with mental and emotional disorders.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar (Department of Psychiatry) delivered a lecture titled “Understanding Suicide and Mental Health Issues” in which he cast light on the various medical factors that cause mental health issues in a person and lead him to take the extreme step. He stated that such individuals should be quickly identified and referred for medical counselling.
