J is divided between his biological family and the only family he’s ever known as he adjusts to life in the Cody household.

TNT renewed the series in May 2018 for a fourth season, which will premiere on May 28, 2019. The series was renewed for a fifth season of 10 episodes on July 26, 2019, with a 2020 premiere date. It was announced in October 2019 that the sixth and final season would comprise of 14 episodes and premiere on June 21, 2020.

The programme has received praise for its writing, direction, performances (especially Barkin and Cole), and soundtrack. It has received a number of honours and nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Dramatic Television Series.
