As the narrative progresses, Margaret Matheson and her assistant Tom Buckley attempt to disprove the existence of ghosts and other supernatural occurrences.

Red Lights Movie Ending Explained: “Red Lights” is a psychological film that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end, leaving many unresolved questions. The film, directed by Rodrigo Cortés, explores the world of investigating the supernatural while maintaining scepticism. As the narrative progresses, Margaret Matheson and her assistant Tom Buckley attempt to disprove the existence of ghosts and other supernatural occurrences.

When they encounter Simon Silver, a famous psychic whose abilities have baffled sceptics for years, they face their greatest obstacle. The film’s ambiguous conclusion provokes reflection on the nature of reality and the thin line between belief and scepticism. It prompts them to consider the mysteries that exist beyond logic.

The Red Lights Plot Explanation

When Margaret and Silver first met, he possessed her publicly and used her unconscious son against her. Now, Tom wants to challenge Silver. Margaret advises Tom to refrain. Tom is unresponsive.

During Silver’s performance, he attempts to listen to radio frequencies in order to bug the show and insinuate that Silver is acting. However, electrical discharges thwart his efforts, destroying his equipment and injuring him.

Margaret passes away as a result of a heart condition she had been enduring. Does this have a connection to Silver? No, he is just a fraudulent man. Tom continues his efforts to expose Silver.

Tom encounters several supernatural occurrences. Tom believes Silver is responsible, but is sceptical of the supernatural aspect.

Red Lights Ending Explanation: What Happens in the Final Scene?

Even after Margaret passes away from her heart condition and Dr. Shackleton (Toby Jones) conducts a battery of tests on Silver, Tom continues to experience strange occurrences. Electricity surges, animals fly into windows, and individuals behave erratically.

In the final act of Red Lights, Silver performs his final sold-out show before retiring, while Sally (Elizabeth Olsen) uncovers that Silver cheated. Meanwhile, Tom is attacked in the lavatory of the performance.

Despite being gravely injured, he returns to the theatre to verbally spar with Silver. Due to his inflated ego, Silver has begun to believe his own publicity. Tom is threatened, but he is cognizant of the truth.

Since Tom is stronger than Silver, Silver is incapable of stopping him. Tom observes with bloody resignation as the theater’s lights explode and the structure shakes. Tom then throws a coin to Silver, who catches it in front of everyone as the crowd watches in shock.

Now that everyone is aware, Silver is not blind and is a fraud. Silver lacks divine powers, but he undoubtedly convinced someone to harm Tom physically. Margaret’s and the reporter’s deaths were trivial coincidences.

Then, the situation becomes increasingly bizarre. Tom has displayed talent throughout his lifetime. In contrast to everyone he and Margaret have ever investigated, he is the genuine article. Although he was aware of his abilities, he continued to seek explanations.

Tom sought evidence that what he was capable of actually existed. For this reason, he remained with Margaret for all those years. He believed he would encounter someone who would validate his abilities.

As the film concludes, he apologises to Margaret for never telling her the truth and disconnects her son’s life support. As he exits the building during a torrential downpour, the rain ceases, indicating that he may possess extraordinary abilities.
