The official trailer for The Swarm provides a glimpse into the unique dystopian world in which the story is set, in which various characters combat a swarm intelligence living beneath the ocean that has the potential to destroy humanity and take over the planet.
The trailer does not reveal any spoilers, but it does define the show’s central premise and provide a glimpse of its distinct tone. According to ZDF Studios, the following is the official plot summary of the science-fiction programme:
Strange events are occurring in the world’s oceans: an ice worm is causing tsumamis, fatal bacteria are poisoning drinking water, and whales are aggressively attacking boats.
Furthermore, the description states,
”There is no rational correlation, but scientists believe a sophisticated intelligence is retaliating against humans. The scientists pilot a technologically sophisticated vessel while searching for an unknown threat deep within the Arctic Ocean.
Based on the official trailer and synopsis, viewers can anticipate an atmospheric and character-driven show that explores disquieting aspects of human and alien existence.
