Flower Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

We adore flowers due to their astounding attractiveness and aroma. In addition, they perform important roles in romance, medicine, rituals, and religion.

Flower Day is annually observed on May 20. It raises a glass to the loveliness of flowers and their practicality. On this day, environmentalists and conservationists raise awareness about flower conservation and the steps that can be taken to protect endangered flower species.

The background of Flower Day

We adore flowers due to their astounding attractiveness and aroma. In addition, they perform important roles in romance, medicine, rituals, and religion. You can find them at christenings, funerals, weddings, and parties, as corsages and boutonnieres, and as household decorations and thoughtful gifts. They are also utilised in religious settings, particularly by Hindus. It is not commonplace to see flowers adorning religious shrines.

There are also flowers that appear frequently in our dishes! Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and artichoke are, in fact, flowers. Similarly, some flowers, such as crocus (or saffron), cloves, and capers, are used as seasonings. Hops are utilised in the production of beer, while dandelion and elderflowers are utilised in the production of wine and concoctions. In addition, some flowers are used to create herbal teas, whereas others are metaphors. For instance, red roses represent love, poppies represent mortality, iris and lilies represent burial, and daisies represent innocence. Artists and poets have also sought inspiration from flora.

However, flower care is no simple task! In terms of growth and health, flowers have their own specific requirements. Some flowers favour shade, while others require direct sunlight. Still others require relatively dry soil, while others thrive in moist soil. Flowers are divas, but they have held our souls captive for centuries.
