Because flowers are so important to this holiday, sales of flowers rise by 40% every year.
The most religious Brazilians go to church meetings and pray extra prayers for people’s souls. Some people show respect by giving up easy things they enjoy, like meat and alcohol. The word “Saudade,” which is only found in Portuguese and means “the feeling of seeing your loved ones go away,” is most often linked to this event in Brazil. This word most closely describes the celebrations in Brazil for All Souls Day, which are a sign of distance or sadness.
The holiday is said to have been marked since the 10th century and is now known all over the world. Tradition is important because it keeps things going from one age to the next, lets societies share their history with others, and teaches people about the past.
