In 1863, a committee was established in Geneva, and the Red Cross’s charter was drafted. Later, he proposed that nations adopt an international agreement recognizing the status of medical services and battlefield casualties. This was the first Geneva Convention, which was ratified in 1864.

Eventually, the British Red Cross was founded. During the Franco-Prussian War in August 1870, a resolution was enacted to establish the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded. It was renamed the British Red Cross in 1905.
