On April 23, 1908, the Congress assembled 160 physicians to establish the Medical Reserve Corps. Its purpose was to furnish the country with a team of professionally trained medical practitioners during national emergencies.
Every year on April 23, the U.S. Army Reserves commemorates its contributions to the Cold War, the World Wars, Vietnam, Korea, the Persian Gulf, and numerous other comparable conflicts and crises around the world. This federal reserve force has played a crucial role in U.S. military history for more than a century. There are army reserve units in all fifty states, twenty time zones, and five U.S. territories.
On April 23, 1908, the Congress assembled 160 physicians to establish the Medical Reserve Corps. Its purpose was to furnish the country with a team of professionally trained medical practitioners during national emergencies. A month later, President Theodore Roosevelt, one of the Army Reserve’s finest citizen-soldiers, signed the bill into law. Congress then established the Organised Reserves for officers via the National Defence Act of 1920. This reserve force is now known as the United States Army Reserve.
It has professionally trained, skilled, and specialised soldiers for use in times of conflict. The Army Reserve provides trained men to support world leaders in times of conflict, as well as U.S. civil authorities. The Army Reserve has played a crucial role during both World Wars, the Cold War, Vietnam, Korea, the Persian Gulf War, and conflicts with the Middle East relating to 9/11.
The Organised Reserve was established promptly following the conclusion of World War I. A third of the approximately 90,000 Army Reserve officers mobilised at the time were physicians. This expedited the healing of the sick and maimed. More than seventy Army Reserve units served in the Korean War. Likewise, combat support was provided for Vietnam, the Persian Gulf conflicts, and missions after September 11th.
Army Reservists are not full-time personnel of the United States military and are permitted to pursue a civilian career while serving their country. They possess sophisticated professional skills, expertise, and education, which contribute significantly to the force’s value.
Although it is not a federal holiday, bases and reserve units near you will be holding events to honour the military service of their personnel. Participate in a local event on this date!
Reserve personnel do not reside on army bases. There is a low probability of finding a reservist in a veteran organisation in your community.
To increase people’s awareness of the Army Reserve, establish the hashtag #USAR114Birthday on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms. Commence an online conversation today.
Food is subsidised for Reservists, and their travel expenses are also covered.
Ex-regular officers who rejoin as Reservists are eligible for up to $10,000 in additional compensation.
When necessary, Army Reservists are permitted to take paid leave.
During his undergraduate studies, Alan Alda, who is widely recognised for his role as Hawkeye on “M.A.S.H. “, served in the Army Reserve.
In 2016, Captain Deshauna Barber became the first member of the armed forces to capture the Miss U.S.A. crown; she is also currently serving.
