On October 9, 1992, Baku’s Azadliq Square hosted the first military parade in the annals of independent Azerbaijan in honour of Armed Forces Day. The parade is one of the country’s largest to date.
In 1998, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan proclaimed June 26 as the Day of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, commemorating the 1918 pre-Soviet declaration of independence. The event is celebrated annually by the Azerbaijani people with parades, pyrotechnics, and concerts. It is also a national holiday, so nobody works or attends school.
