The 2nd of September is Bison-Ten Yell Day, a wacky holiday that celebrates a variety of things, including the 200th birthday of an imaginary character, the person who invented verbal signalling to yell at soldiers during war, the secret signals between football players, and the fact that “Bison-Ten Yell” sounds like “bicentennial” when repeated.

The background of Bison-ten Yell Day

We’ve encountered many bizarre holidays, but Bison-Ten Yell Day takes the cake. The holiday is celebrated for several peculiar causes. The phrase “Bison-Ten Yell” resembles the word ‘bicentennial.’ Bicentennial is synonymous with the 200th anniversary. The origin of the holiday is presumably attributable to a person born in 1813. This ‘person’ reportedly commemorates his 200th birthday every year. So, our fictitious character is comparable to Peter Pan, but with the same age commemorated each year.

We’d provide a history of the day if it weren’t for the fact that this holiday serves no purpose other than to serve as a jest. However, the holiday does have some validity, as it honours the individual who invented war signals. Soldiers were required to memorise the meanings of verbal signals and symbols. Does this ring a bell? NFL athletes behave similarly.

The origins of the day are unknown, but we will continue to investigate to discover the meaning of “Bison-Ten Yell.” Our hypothesis is that the “Ten-Yell” likely refers to the fact that the original number of war signals was ten, and that the “Ten-Yell” likely refers to this. If only we could somehow account for the bison. Perhaps the creator of the holiday was enormous and imposing.

The high five allegedly gained popularity after baseball players played at Dodger Stadium on October 2, 1977.

This hand gesture originated in ancient Rome and indicated a gladiator’s execution.

Due to their thick boxing gloves, boxers began greeting their opponents by bumping knuckles in the early 1900s.

Simplifying the original act of removing headwear in the presence of senior officers, saluting is now a widespread practise.
