Celebrate Exchange Day occurs annually on March 27. This day commemorates the establishment of the first local Exchange Club in 1911 in Detroit, Michigan. The holiday commemorates the devoted service that the National Exchange Club has provided to communities across the country for more than a century. The National Exchange Club has over 18,000 members and operates throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The organisation operates on the basis of its belief in three fundamental values: family, community, and country, and seeks to enhance community health by systematically addressing issues such as child abuse.
Celebrate Exchange Day is observed on the anniversary of Charles A. Berkey’s 1911 foundation of the first local Exchange Club in Detroit, Michigan. The organisation was founded because its founders desired to encourage a free-flowing exchange of ideas on how to better serve communities. The second local club was founded in Toledo, Ohio, in 1913, followed by clubs in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Cleveland, Ohio. The National Exchange Club (NEC) chartered these four local societies in 1917, when it was established as a non-profit educational organisation.
Over the years, the National Exchange Club has sponsored activities under their Programs of Service, including those pertaining to patriotism, student programs, and community service. Additionally, the organisation has a national programme through which members contribute to its mission to end child abuse. Members of the National Exchange Club tailor their programmes to the requirements of American citizens, including mentoring young people, assisting students in obtaining college scholarships, and providing services to disadvantaged segments of American society.
The organisation has played a crucial role in American history. In the early days of aviation development in the United States, for instance, the National Exchange Club incorporated “aviation” into its Programs of Service. The National Exchange Club has laboured for decades to improve the lives of communities across the country. In 2018, the organisation commemorated 100 years of National Conventions in Reno.
