The second local club was founded in Toledo, Ohio, in 1913, followed by clubs in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Cleveland, Ohio. The National Exchange Club (NEC) chartered these four local societies in 1917, when it was established as a non-profit educational organisation.

Over the years, the National Exchange Club has sponsored activities under their Programs of Service, including those pertaining to patriotism, student programs, and community service. Additionally, the organisation has a national programme through which members contribute to its mission to end child abuse.
