Commemoration Day 2023 (UAE): Date, History and 5 interesting Facts

Peaceful living means that there are no problems in the world, so people can do what they want, like travel, fall in love, work, raise their children with love, and more.

Commemoration Day 2023: Commemoration Day which is also called Martyrs’ Day, is celebrated every year on December 1 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This day is set aside to remember, respect, and raise awareness of the brave and selfless Emirati soldiers, civilians, and aid workers who gave their lives in the U.A.E. The day was first celebrated in 2015, and since then it has been held every year on November 30. In 2019, the date was changed to December 1.

How Commemoration Day Came To Be

In a peaceful world, people can do anything they want, including travel, fall in love, work, raise children, and more. Soldiers and civilians who gave their lives at various times helped win the peace that the majority of societies around the world enjoy today. On Commemoration Day, Emirati Martyrs who gave their lives for their country are remembered.

The first Emirati police officer to die in the line of duty was Salem Bin Khamis Al Dahmani. It happened on November 30, 1971, not long before the United Arab Emirates was formed. He lost his life in an unanticipated attack by Iranian Naval troops while on an expedition into Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs after the British left and relinquished control of the protectorate.

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, declared November 30, 2015, the date of this brave police officer’s death, as a holiday to honor all those who had died in the line of duty for their country. Before it was changed to December 1, November 30 was always observed as Commemoration Day, even though that was not the case from 2015 to 2019.

In different places, Memorial Day is called different things. It’s called Martyrs’ Day, Remembrance Day, Memorial Day, Decoration Day, or Veterans’ Day in different countries, but the thought behind it is the same: to remember these great people who gave their lives for our country.
