Day of Hope 2023: Date, History, Facts about Child Abuse

When everything is lost, hope is the only thing that keeps us striving for a better future and preserving our humanity and sanity.

Day of Hope is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of April. It is a day of inspiration and motivation for everyone to become aware of the need to rescue children and adults experiencing various forms of abuse, illnesses, and traumatic events. Did you know that in the United States, children are murdered and abused on a daily basis? This day is primarily commemorated in an effort to end infant abuse and neglect. It is time to answer the call and give hope to the despondent in any way possible.

The background of Day of Hope

When everything is lost, hope is the only thing that keeps us striving for a better future and preserving our humanity and sanity. The world is filled with many people who struggle to live a life of happiness and fulfillment, and as a result, there are many children who are enduring abuse, neglect, deprivation, or sexual assault.

It is unfortunate, but true, that millions of children who should be well protected, cherished, and cared for are subjected to debilitating experiences that are physically and psychologically harmful, and have in many cases led to their deaths. It pegs a large dent on our humanity, on our conscience as a race, which birthed the idea behind the Day of Hope.

Day of Hope was founded by Yvonne Fedderson and Sara O’Meara’s non-profit humanitarian organization, International Orphans Inc., which was renamed Childhelp. Its primary mission is to advocate for the welfare of children around the world and to let them know they are not neglected. It endeavours to provide help and succour to child victims all around the world, and also sensitise all and sundry about the need to protect and ensure the safety of children.

According to research, children whose childhoods were severe and abusive are at risk of becoming abusive, abusing alcohol and drugs, engaging in criminal behavior, and even committing suicide. In addition, the Day of Hope serves as a reminder that we have a responsibility to ensure the protection of children worldwide.
