It is believed that a young woman guided a party of individuals to the barracks.
As they marched, they chanted the slogan “Long live liberty!” A minority of Panamanians did not support the independence movement. Notwithstanding this, the uprising managed to amass support. It generated sufficient impetus to secure independence for Panama. The inauguration of the Independence Act of Panama occurred on November 28, 1821.
Since achieving independence, Panama has flourished as a commercial hub. In Central America, Panama City is arguably the most prosperous metropolis. The pragmatic implementation of the canal prompted a multitude of transformations throughout the country.
