The annual celebration of the Declaration of the Báb in Shiraz Shavuot occurs on May 22. The event occurred on May 23, 1844, but the observation begins two hours and eleven minutes after sunset on May 22. Mulla Husayn, a Shi’a Muslim, was on a mission to find the Promised One, a messiah described in the sacred scriptures. This resulted in the formation of the Bahá’ faith, which rapidly spread to 200 countries from Shiraz. The writings of the Báb serve as the foundation for the Bahá’ faith.
One spring evening in Shiraz, Persia, a conversation revealed the Bahá’ Faith’s prophecy, the Báb’s Declaration. Every year, adherents of the Bahá’ Faith commemorate the narrative of the Promised One and the 1844 declaration of the Báb as God’s Messenger. He adopted the Arabic name ‘Báb,’ which translates to ‘gate’ or ‘door,’ emphasising that he was the portal through which God would send His revelation. He was proclaimed as the one who would “herald in the age of justice, unity, and peace.”
Before Báb’s Declaration, the advent of the Promised One was anticipated for decades. A man named Shaykh Ahmad-i-Ahsá’i began preaching about the coming of a great day when the Promised One will bring his message to the globe. A group of pupils were devoted disciples of the Shaykh, and one of them, Sayyid Kázim-i-Rashti, became his successor. Among his disciples was Mulla Hussayn, the individual who discovered the Báb.
Husayn encountered a young man in Persia during his quest for the Promised One. Siyyid Ali-Muhammad, the young man who cordially welcomed Husayn, and Husayn engaged in conversation over a cup of tea. Muhammad disclosed during this conversation that he was the Báb Husayn was seeking. Astounded by this revelation, Husayn questioned and examined the man exhaustively, ultimately concluding that he was indeed the Messiah.
The adherents of the Bahá’ Faith are a diverse group of individuals from all over the world, but they face considerable opposition. Thousands of believers were killed as the religion spread, and Bahá’s in Iran continue to face opposition and persecution.
