Egypt Mother’s Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

On March 21, Egypt honors, commemorates, and uplifts all mothers and motherly figures in the country. It was the first Arab nation to celebrate mothers with a special day.

On March 21, Egypt celebrates Mother’s Day annually. After a year-long awareness campaign by journalist Mustafa Amin, the date was established as a holiday in 1956. God does not send us to Earth with an instruction manual; He sends us to a mother, as the saying goes. A lifetime is insufficient to express our gratitude to the woman who brings life into the world and frequently nurtures the family, but we can endeavor. In Egypt, mothers are pampered like queens to commemorate the holiday. They are permitted a day of rest and relaxation while other members of the household take care of their regular responsibilities. The background of Egypt Mother’s Day

On March 21, Egypt honors, commemorates, and uplifts all mothers and motherly figures in the country. It was the first Arab nation to celebrate mothers with a special day. In 1943, Egyptian journalist Mustafa Amin published his book “Smiling America,” in which he expressed a desire for a national holiday honoring mothers. Until 1956, when Amin encountered a bereaved mother whose son had abandoned her, no one paid attention to his wishes. The weeping widow reiterated to Amin that she had devoted her entire life to an inconsiderate child who refused to pay her a visit.

The narrative revealed the harsh reality of abandoned mothers and neglected parents throughout the nation. Amin began promoting the concept of a Mother’s Day commemoration throughout the country after expressing sympathy and solidarity with the cause. The idea was initially mocked by everyone, including the country’s president Gamal Abdel Nasser, but Mustafa declared March 21 as Mother’s Day in the newspaper “Akhbar el-Yom.” The day was adopted officially in 1957, and it is now celebrated throughout the Arab world.

Mustafa Amin paid a steep price for his propagation efforts, including a brief stint in jail. There were also attempts to alter the name of Mother’s Day to Family Day. Today, the holiday is observed throughout the nation with social declarations and festivities. The families exchange gifts and sing hymns in public while singing hymns. Everyone experiences discounts at restaurants and a joyful atmosphere.

EGYPT MOTHER’S DAY ACTIVITIES

Spoil your mum

There is nothing else to do on Mother’s Day besides shower your mother or a motherly figure in your life with affection and gratitude. Send her gifts and recognize the struggles she endured while raising you.

Have a mother-themed film marathon “Mamma Mia,” “Stepmom,” “Terms of Endearment,” and, most recently, “Ladybird” are all beautiful films that depict the mother-child relationship and the tumultuous turns it can take along the path of life. Put your leg up, pour yourself a goblet of wine, and watch a movie marathon with your mother.

Make a gift to an orphanage

While we convene to honor the mothers in our lives, not everyone has had the opportunity to have a mother. On the Egyptian holiday of Mother’s Day, extend grace to those whose vessels are empty. To honor mothers around the globe, visit an orphanage and pledge a donation or hours of service.

5 UNIQUELY BEAUTIFUL EGYPTIAN CULTURAL TRADITIONS
