Extra Mile Day 2023: Extra Mile Day is observed on November 1 to help us recognize the positive impact that “going the extra mile” has on our families, communities, and organizations. The purpose of the observance is to honor individuals who travel the distance and beyond across the globe. Extra Mile Day motivates us to strive for personal growth and improvement; the mere minimum is no longer acceptable; exceeding expectations has become the new norm.
In the early 20th century, the expression “go the extra mile” first appeared. The expression is thought to be a reference to a biblical line. During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus instructed, “Go with him two-fold if he forces you to travel a mile.”
November 1 was proclaimed Extra Mile Day in 2011 by the Extra Mile America foundation in collaboration with mayors of 228 cities in the United States. The quantity of commemorative municipalities in the United States increased to 527 in 2014. The annual observance of organizations and individuals who have contributed to the Extra Mile initiative is a tremendous show of devotion.
The purpose of the celebration was to express gratitude for our capacity to effect positive change in the world. Shawn Anderson founded Extra Mile America in 2009 to help people and organizations exceed expectations and bring about the positive change they want to see on a global scale.
The founders of Extra Mile Day intended to motivate individuals to take action and maintain a positive attitude toward life. The observance is intended to inspire individuals to concentrate on living a meaningful existence devoid of constraints. The day illuminates what is possible when our potential is utilized.
Extra Mile America aspires for this parade to inspire individuals across the globe to wholeheartedly accept their responsibilities as catalysts for transformation. Implementing this change begins with incremental steps; for instance, one might extend one’s work hours slightly in order to finalize those minute details in advance of the designated time. For some, it may involve extending a sincere expression of gratitude to customers or surprising their companion with flowers on a day other than their birthday.
We all aspire to attain greater heights in our professional lives and have professions. Leverage this observance as motivation to exert additional effort in pursuit of your objectives. Create a feasible strategy and commit sufficient time to executing it.
