Family Volunteer Day 2023: Family Volunteer Day is observed annually on November 20, which falls two days after the third Thursday in November or the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving. Vulnerabilists have been in existence for decades. Women volunteered their time to sew provisions for the combatants fighting in the American Civil War of the 1800s. Volunteers are typically prepared for careers in education, medicine, or rescue operations. Voluntary work is occasionally performed in moments of crisis, such as during a natural disaster. A relatively recent development in the realm of volunteerism is a novel form called volunteer tourism.

Family volunteering consists of members of the same household assisting their local communities or neighborhoods, thereby fortifying both the family and the community. In 1990, in recognition of this modest and benevolent endeavor, Points of Light established Family Volunteer Day. Sponsored by Disney’s Friends for Change, the day is administered by generationOn, a division of Points of Light that provides services to adolescents and families. Youth are motivated, empowered, and organized to effect change by means of service, service-learning, and leadership development. In addition, they prioritize infrastructure advocacy, the development of pervasive calls to action, and the improvement of extant networks.

In addition to establishing this day, their intention was to provide an opportunity for parents to utilize it as a means to assist in the upbringing of kind and compassionate children. Voluntary work as a family can foster meaningful moments spent together and is incredibly enjoyable, irrespective of the number of family members participating.
