The principal festivities of Fiji Day occur in Levuka, the location where the cession deed was originally executed. On this national holiday, Fijians don traditional attire and enact the events that transpired on October 10, 1874. Albert Park in the capital (Suva) serves as a gathering place for dignitaries, local officials, and citizens to attend addresses delivered by the President and Prime Minister of Fiji. The park was bequeathed to Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria, in recognition of his significance as a historic site.
