Global Energy Independence Day is annually observed on July 10. It seeks to increase awareness of the significance of alternative energies. We presently rely on fossil fuels as energy sources, which must be replaced. The formation of fossil fuels takes millions of years and is therefore nonrenewable. They also contribute to pollution. On this day, we raise awareness against fossil fuels and focus on discovering renewable and relatively non-polluting alternative energy sources. In 2006, Michael D. Antonovich, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, established this day.
Global Energy Independence Day is a reminder that energy is one of our fundamental requirements. In prehistoric periods, our ancestors required little energy. The majority of their energy requirements were for body maintenance. But with the discovery of fire, the need for an energy source progressively increased. The fire’s fuel was readily available, straightforward, and gratis. However, over time, our needs have grown. Over time, discoveries were made, and everything required energy. Consequently, new forms of fuel were ultimately discovered and utilised. Prior to the advent of navigation, we began utilising wind power. The first liquid fuels were then introduced, and they were natural oils.
As factories began to operate, it became apparent that a substance capable of producing substantial amounts of energy was required. In response to this need, coal and later petroleum were discovered. Coal was a prominent fuel source during the Middle Ages. It powered communities and large-scale industries. However, the pollution induced by coal combustion is a concern. Therefore, we began searching for alternative renewable energy sources. Now, the technology exists to generate clean and renewable energy from wind, sun, water, and other natural sources. However, we are still unable to generate enough energy to abandon fossil fuels.
We have advanced in our quest. However, our technology for extracting energy from natural sources is still limited. Global Energy Independence Day is a reminder to develop superior technologies and concepts. Fossil fuels are the source of the environmental destruction caused by greenhouse gases. Future world cleanliness can only be achieved by developing a superior fuel source.
