The background of Google Commemoration Day

In January of 1996, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, both Ph.D. candidates at Stanford University, initiated a research endeavour. This project entailed the creation of a search engine, and it would turn out to be the genesis of Google.

They created an algorithm known as “PageRank.” Its purpose was to determine the connections between websites. It then allocated a site a relevance score based on the number of links it contained. In contrast to other search engines, which assigned relevance based on the number of times the search term appeared on the page, this search engine assigned relevance based on the frequency with which the search term appeared on the page.
