Guinness World Records Day 2023: November 17 is observed annually as Guinness World Records Day, which falls in November this year. A volume titled “Guinness World Records” (G.W.R.) comprises records compiled from around the globe. It is a resource for locating the finest archives in the world and verifying facts. Publishing in more than a hundred countries and twenty-three languages. On November 19, 2004, the “Guinness Book of World Records” became the best-selling book of all time in conjunction with the first celebration of this day. Since then, November has been set aside annually to commemorate all the world records that have been broken to date and to inspire others to continue doing so.

Guinness World Records Day 2023: History

Sir Hugh Beaver, the managing director of Guinness Breweries, was intrigued by the fastest game bird in Europe while attending a shooting celebration in Ireland on November 10, 1951. Whether it was the golden plover or the red grouse eluded his judgment. He concluded, following several rounds of debate, that there was not a single book to which he could consult in order to verify this fact. Additionally, he came to the realization that a book was required that could serve as a veritable reference for records amassed globally during debates similar to the one he frequently initiated in bars.

Christopher Chataway, an additional employee at Guinness Breweries, was intrigued by this curiosity. He subsequently suggested Norris and Ross McWhirter, two of his acquaintances who had established a fact-finding agency in London. Norris and Ross McWhirter were awarded the compilation of The Guinness Book of Records in August 1954. The Guinness Book of Records office was founded in London on August 27, 1955. By Christmas 1955, the first edition consisting of 198 pages had been bound and had become one of the most popular books in Britain. The book debuted in the United States in 1956 and subsequently sold in excess of 70,000 copies.

Rapidly gaining international recognition, the G.W.R. was tasked with documenting every monumental accomplishment and obscure fact in the world. The immense popularity of the Guinness Book of World Records prompted the establishment of a museum in 1976 atop the Empire State Building in the United States, where the numerous dazzling records are on display.
