Hobbit Day in U.S. 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

Gandalf the Grey said it best: “Hobbits are truly incredible beings.” This September 22, commemorate National Hobbit Day by recognizing J.R.R. Tolkien’s most lovable and heroic characters. Hobbits are timid, yet courageous; reluctant to leave their homes, yet thirsty for adventure; peaceful and silent, yet eager to organize parties. Hobbits have endeared generations with their affable complexities and amazing qualities. (Here are some Hobbit facts: Tolkien imagined these tiny people as a distinct race, similar to the Elves and Dwarves. Hobbit is therefore always capitalized.)

Enjoy one of Tolkien’s classic works this fall and let your imagination lead you on an adventure with Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. Remember that “home is behind, and the world is ahead” – J.R.R. Tolkien.

The background of Hobbit Day

In Middle-earth, a land filled with dragons, trolls, elves, magic, and peril, there is no limit to the fun and danger. Enjoy an experience that will ignite your imagination! No matter what obstacles its characters face, “The Hobbit” never deviates from its central motif of friendship. Hobbits remain steadfast in their affection and loyalty to one another through every twist, test, and difficulty. “The Hobbit” is a timeless tale about virtue and evil. In spite of the fact that those who fight for the good endure hardships and setbacks, they never lose faith that the good will ultimately triumph, and in the end, the Hobbits are victorious! J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” was published on September 21, 1937. It opened to widespread acclaim from critics. United Artists purchased the film rights for “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” from J.R.R. Tolkien for £100,000. Hobbits are introduced to the big screen in “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first installment of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The film adaptation of the original “The Hobbit” adventure is released and grosses $37 million on opening night.
