IEEE Global Engineering Day celebrated on May 13 annually, is all about recognizing the achievements of engineers and their work that has an impact on society. Discussing engineering advancements or demonstrating the work of engineers are excellent methods for highlighting the enormous impact engineering has had on our daily lives. Next time you walk down the street, discover yourself in an office building, or drive over a bridge, marvel at the incredible skill and intellect that went into creating what you observe and utilize every day.

The background of IEEE Global Engineering Day

Every year in May, we celebrate IEEE Global Engineering Day to honor the profession and field of study that has always pushed humanity’s known limits a little further. It also emphasises the need for governments to have a firmer mandate to promote science, technology, and engineering as rewarding and competitive career paths. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE), the world’s largest organisation of technical professionals with over 350,000 members in 160 countries, stresses the importance of encouraging more students and young professionals to pursue a career in engineering, computing, and technology fields.

The IEEE Foundation was established in 1973 and is governed by the laws of the State of New York to promote the scientific and educational objectives of the IEEE. The Foundation is managed by a Board of thirteen members with diverse technical, geographic, and professional backgrounds and a staff of ten. IEEE Global Engineering Day was established to unite the global community in honouring engineers and engineering’s future. It involves recognising their accomplishments and efforts. Through competitions, projects, and activities, students will be exposed to the field of engineering.

The world’s highest skyscrapers are found in major cities, along with a complex network of highways, subways, skyways, and cutting-edge airports and seaports. Automobiles can drive themselves, and drones can take wedding photographs. Engineers and other men of science are responsible for everything from the vast infrastructures that shape our landscapes to the mobile applications we use on a daily basis.
