Children's Day or International Children's Day is a universal celebration of children. The day is observed on different dates in different parts of the globe.
International Children’s Day is observed annually on June 1 as an initiative for children’s well-being and rights in various parts of the globe. This day is observed as part of a larger effort to end child abuse, end the denial of children’s rights, and improve the lives of children all over the globe. International Children’s Day, not to be confounded with November’s Universal Children’s Day, is nearly identical to its counterpart, with the exception that it is observed in June. The greater the number, the happier!
Children’s Day or International Children’s Day is a universal celebration of children. The day is observed on different dates in different parts of the globe. It was established by the 1925 Proclamation of the globe Conference on Child Welfare in Geneva. Some countries observe it in June, while others observe it in November, but its purpose has always been the same.
Since the Industrial Revolution and subsequent world wars, children have been severely abused, subjugated, and deprived of fundamental human rights. They could be easily coerced into oppression and unjust, unethical, and corrupt activities due to their weakness and timidity. They were manipulated and exploited. It was discovered that millions of them were emaciated. During the Geneva Conference, all of these discoveries were highlighted, and as a result, the world’s leaders decide to protect children worldwide.
In the developed nations of the time, immediate action was taken to improve the conditions for children, whereas in the developing nations, donor agencies provided funds and donations for the social development of the people and children. There were organised campaigns and social solicitations for volunteers to assist with the development.
Children’s education, nutrition, anti-human-trafficking efforts, and the abolition of child labour were accorded the uttermost priority among these activities. As a result of all these initiatives, a day dedicated to raising awareness about child protection and children’s rights was deemed necessary, and International Children’s Day is now celebrated and sponsored worldwide.
