General Secretary António Guterres in December 2019 and presented him with a proposal from the Grand Imam and the Pope to designate February 4 as the World Day of Human Fraternity going forward. Soon after, Volkan Bozkir, the president of the U.N. General Assembly, proclaimed February 4 to be World Day of Human Fraternity.

The Higher Committee also established the “Zayed Award for Human Fraternity,” designating a jury of independents to consider nominations and select recipients from among individuals who have devoted their lives to promoting peace, understanding, and human fraternity. On the International Day of Human Fraternity, awards are presented.
