The International Day of Neutrality’s History

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution in February 2017 that formally established the International Day of Neutrality, which was observed on December 12 of that same year.

However, the only nation acknowledged as neutral by the UN is Turkmenistan. On December 12, 1995, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 50/80, which recognized Turkmenistan as a fully neutral state. On February 2, 2017, the International Day of Neutrality was created to commemorate the anniversary of this declaration.
