In addition to making the rallying call, Starr initiated the tradition of meeting with friends and fans at the Chicago Hard Rock Cafe, handing out cupcakes and saying “peace and love” with the audience at noon. In 2019, more than thirty ‘Peace and Love’ celebrations were held around the globe, and Starr’s 800-pound ‘Peace and Love’ statue was displayed in Beverly Hills, California. The eight-foot-tall sculpture was unveiled by Mayor John Mirisch on Santa Monica Boulevard in front of City Hall.
In 2020, Starr transferred the celebrations online and hosted ‘Ringo’s Big Birthday Show’ where he invited musicians to perform. Sheryl Crow, Dave Grohl, and Paul McCartney were among the performers. Through the International Space Station, NASA astronauts wished the globe a happy birthday and delivered a message of peace and love.
