International St. John’s Day is celebrated globally on June 24. It is a commemoration of St. John the Baptist’s birth. Certain passages in the Gospel of Luke indicate that Saint John the Baptist was born six months before Jesus Christ. In the Christian Church, St. John is revered as Jesus Christ’s precursor. He was a Jewish prophet who resided in the Jordan River valley and baptised individuals in the river after they confessed their sins. St. John wore the traditional attire of prophets, a camel-hair garment.

Since the fourth century, International St. John’s Day has been celebrated on June 24. It was established by the Catholic Church to commemorate the birth of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ. The day commemorates an iconic prophet who, according to the Gospel of Luke, was born six months before the advent of Jesus Christ. Since the birth of Jesus Christ is believed to have occurred on December 25, Christian historians determined that St. John was born on either June 24 or 25, based on information from the ‘Book of Luke’ in the “Bible.” By celebrating this holiday in June, it coincides with midsummer, a time of year when many other European holidays are also observed. Due to this, the holiday is frequently combined with other holidays and activities for generally indistinguishable celebrations.

Some Orthodox Churches celebrate the First and Second Finding of the Head of St. John the Baptist to commemorate events that occurred after his death. St. John’s significance in Christian history is so great that several churches are dedicated to commemorating the majority of significant events in his life.

Saint John the Baptist, who is revered by the Baptist Church and is also known as John the Immerser and Prophet Yahya in Islam, was born in the first century B.C. He was a prominent itinerant preacher around the Jordan River. According to biblical accounts, he was related to Jesus. He is an important religious figure in at least five religions. In the year 30 A.D., he was imprisoned and subsequently beheaded by order of Herod Antipas, in response to a request from Herod’s wife, whose marriage to the king John had harshly criticised.
