King Bhumibol’s birthday 2023: Thailand was ruled by King Bhumibol, usually referred to as Rama IX, from June 9, 1946, until his passing on October 13, 2016. Throughout his protracted reign, King Bhumibol was able to win over the populace with his optimistic views on democracy. The King, whose father, Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, was a Harvard student, was the only other monarch born outside of the United States.
King Bhumibol was revered and loved throughout Thailand for his role in averting a civil war that was on the verge of breaking out in 1992. By making sure that illicit drugs did not reach the public, the King also fought the war on drugs. Most significantly, he was regarded as Thailand’s “development” king and the country’s father of technology.

He began the radio station from inside the palace, and in the 1950s, he even formed a jazz band and started it.
The King’s health began to deteriorate towards the end of 2016, and as a result, he was brought to the hospital. October 13, 2016, was his death date. Thousands of his admirers lamented his passing and still commemorate his life on December 5 each year. Buildings all around Thailand fly flags, hang buntings, and exhibit photos of the late King on the anniversary of his birth. Thousands of marigold flowers, symbolizing jubilation, line the streets.
