Korean American Day 2024: Date, history and 5 Facts About Korea

Korean American Day 2024 honors Korean-American friends who have made significant contributions in various fields, marking the anniversary of the initial wave of immigration in 1903.

Korean American Day 2024: We mark Korean American Day on January 13 to pay tribute to and recognize our friends of Korean origin who, over more than a century, have made enormous contributions as doctors, artists, small business owners, members of the military, church leaders, and elected officials. The initial wave of immigration occurred back in 1903. Every year on January 13, we commemorate Korean American Day.

Korean American Day’s History

A little over 100 Korean immigrants landed in the US for the first time in 1903. That figure soon increased, and in just two years, 7,500 more Korean immigrants had traveled there. Korean Americans have contributed much to society over the years, and we recognize and commemorate their contribution on Korean American Day.

For Korean Americans, there has been much to be happy about during the last hundred years or so. Hines Ward Jr. was a Pittsburgh Steelers player; David Hyun was the architect who brought Little Tokyo in Los Angeles back to life; and Wendy Gramm was the chair of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission under Presidents Reagan and Bush. Sammy Lee was a two-time Olympic gold medalist in diving.

In addition to the influence of specific individuals, Korean culture as a whole has had a significant impact in the United States. Korean food has gained enormous popularity; ordering bibimbap with kimchi on the side and listening to some K-pop music while driving home have become regular activities. Among the greater number of Korean Americans

The US Senate and House of Representatives approved the resolution endorsing Korean American Day’s ideals in 2005. January 13th is officially Korean American Day, which is a great reason to eat some kimchi as a snack.
