According to Lake Superior Magazine, Lake Superior Day was founded by lake enthusiasts in Thunder Bay, Ontario, in the 1990s. Then, a decade later, it was revived by the late Bob Browne of Superior, who served on the Lake Superior Binational Forum. On the third Sunday of July, Lake Superior is the only one of the Great Lakes to be honoured annually with its own day.
