It started in 1976. The Israeli government announced its intention to acquire land from Arab villages in the Galilee region, including Sakhnin and Arraba, for official use.
Land Day, which occurs annually on March 30, is a significant day for Palestinian citizens and the worldwide Palestinian diaspora. It was a significant event in Palestinian history when six people were killed during protests against Israel’s land confiscation. This day commemorates not only this past event, but also the revolutionary attitude of the Palestinian people.
It started in 1976. The Israeli government announced its intention to acquire land from Arab villages in the Galilee region, including Sakhnin and Arraba, for official use. This action would displace a large number of Arab citizens.
The National Committee for the Defense of Arab Lands called for a strike as the very first political organisation professing to represent all Palestinians. They dubbed this “Land Day” and organised extensive demonstrations, primarily in the affected regions. Before the 1970s, public demonstrations by Arab citizens were extremely uncommon, if not nonexistent. Political movements were intermittently active. This event brought together Arabs from both sides of Israel’s border.
The protest did not halt the land expropriation plan on its own. Protesters were confronted with stiff opposition. Hundreds of individuals were injured, and six were killed.
Land Day became a national holiday in Palestine sixteen years after the incident and is commemorated annually with demonstrations and a general strike by all Palestinians.
In 2018, thousands of Palestinians, including families and individuals of all ages and genders, commemorated Land Day by marching peacefully towards the Gaza Strip’s border regions. It was originally intended to highlight the sacrifices of those who have resisted and continue to resist land acquisition; it is also a protest against Israel’s decade-long siege of Gaza. Since that time, Palestinians in Gaza have organised weekly marches towards an Israeli security fence. In addition to attempting to break the quarantine surrounding their territory, they also demand the return of their land.
The celebration of Land Day by Palestinians in the United States, Canada, Germany, Finland, France, and Belgium persists to this day.
Not only is Palestine home to the world’s oldest olive trees, but the plant also represents the people of Palestine.
Jericho, the world’s oldest metropolis, was founded here around 8000 B.C., according to archaeological evidence.
These were the earliest inhabitants of Palestine; modern Palestinians are descended from the Canaanites, the eastern Mediterranean peoples, and the Arab communities that intermarried with them.
Palestine is home to many holy sites, including Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Nazareth.
Special organisations in Palestine, such as Islamic Relief, have responded to the discord and stress caused by the conflict by providing emergency humanitarian aid, recreational activities, and psychosocial support programmes.
