Library Shelfie Day 2024: We observe Library Shelfie Day on the fourth Wednesday of January each year. It is observed on January 24 this year. It’s a day for book lovers to have fun sharing their most beloved novels and library shelves with the world. The globe is after all the property of the literate! Readers are invited to snap a selfie on this day with their favorite library shelf, which highlights the books that speak to them. To commemorate the day, people from all around the world, including bookshops, libraries, and schools, post images of their favorite books or shelves on social media. Create the most attractive shelf you can, take a shelfie, and share it with everyone you know.
Because of the length of library history, library history is a distinct academic field. In essence, the first libraries were just structured collections of documents. Thousands of years ago, the earliest libraries were made up of records of transactions and inventory recorded on clay tablets. These tablets eventually covered a wider range of subjects, including astronomical and astrological literature, medical diagnoses, omen texts, religious and administrative records, etc. Historians and academics found a wealth of information in the clay tablets.
Libraries eventually acquired written documents and books and developed into common institutional and state spaces. Private libraries were first thought to exist in the fifth century B.C. Book-filled personal libraries were first seen in ancient Greece and were typically located in villas. On the other hand, the Roman Empire is where the first public libraries ever existed.
To surpass the preceding emperor, each emperor opened one or more. Libraries evolved over time, both in terms of their contents and operations. For example, only the well-educated populace had access to certain royal and institutional libraries throughout the Roman Empire. Even the stacks were not entirely within their reach. But most libraries rented out books in the Early Middle Ages in exchange for a sizeable security deposit. Modern libraries were made possible by a variety of inventions, technological breakthroughs, globalization, and digitization.
Shelves are the one thing that all libraries have in common! Whether you’re a voracious reader or not, something is fulfilling about browsing the library’s shelves and picking up various books; everyone seems to agree. Library Shelfie Day, which was instituted by the New York Public Library in 2014, allows us to easily peruse people’s library shelves via screens. It can be difficult to maintain some of the classic pleasures in the era of digitalization, technology, and Kindles. While digital books might be easier to obtain, nothing compares to the tactile experience of real books.
Although most of us experience a reading phase in our early years, as life gets busier, it usually fades. A day such as today can be the catalyst we require to pick up a book once more and rediscover the pleasure of reading.
The classics are well known to us, but there are countless other amazing novels available as well. Finding out what your favorite celebrities, friends, and family are reading and receiving book recommendations are two fantastic things about Library Shelfie Day.
