Malcolm X Day is celebrated annually on May 19 in the United States. It is used to express appreciation for the civil rights leader Malcolm X. He was an African American Muslim minister who advocated for black empowerment with vigour. He advocated for the advancement of Islam within the African community. Malcolm X is also credited with boosting the self-esteem of African-Americans by reconnecting them with their African ancestry. The holiday serves to recognise and honour the contributions he made to society during his lifetime.

Malcolm X Day occurs annually on May 19 in the United States. It is a day dedicated to commemorating the civil rights leader’s contributions to society. Since 1979, Berkeley, California has observed this day as an official holiday, with city offices and institutions closed. Since 2015, it has been an official state holiday in Illinois, and since 2019 it has also been observed in Missouri. Malcolm X enjoyed organising, commanding, and preaching, as was well-known. He was the first Nation of Islam preacher after the group’s founder and became the movement’s official spokesperson. He was able to increase the movement’s membership from 500 people in 1952 to 30,000 people in 1963, but he ultimately departed the movement. He travelled to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj.

His journey to Mecca had a profound effect on him. He wrote to his wife and colleagues about the warm reception and genuine brotherhood he encountered. He stated that what he witnessed in the ancient sacred land forced him to reorganise the majority of his previous thought patterns. He was willing to abandon the majority of his previous beliefs and adopt a new way of life.

In 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated in Harlem while speaking at an Organisation of Afro-American Unity (O.A.U.) rally. Talmadge Hayer was the assailant who was apprehended at the site, along with the three Nation of Islam members who were convicted of the crime. The man insisted that his co-defendants’ innocence.
