March New Moon 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

Before 4.5 billion years ago, a Mars-sized object collided with Earth. This collision led to the formation of the Moon.

March New Moon occurs on March 21 and is commemorated by the apparition of the New Moon in March. When the Sun and Moon align and the Sun and Earth are on opposite sides of the Moon, the New Moon occurs. According to astronomy, the New Moon signifies the beginning of a new lunar cycle. It also represents new beginnings. The New Moon is an important day in a variety of contexts, and we will discuss them now.

The background of March New Moon

Before 4.5 billion years ago, a Mars-sized object collided with Earth. This collision led to the formation of the Moon. Over a period of 100 million years, the majority of the “magma ocean” crystallized, and the lunar crust was formed. The majority of the Moon is covered by the lunar regolith, a pile of charcoal-gray dust and rocky detritus.

The Moon has no natural illumination of its own. Sunlight illuminates a portion of the moon, and the moon’s reflection determines what we see. At a certain point, half of the moon is illuminated, while the other half remains in darkness. However, various portions of the illuminated half are visible depending on the Moon’s orbital position. There are eight varieties of these positions: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, and Waning Crescent.

The New Moon is an invisible lunar phase. During this phase, the illuminated side of the Moon confronts the Sun, while the dark side faces Earth. Even outside the context of astronomy, the New Moon has great significance. Numerous calendars, including the Chinese calendar, Hebrew calendar, and Hindu calendar, associate it with the commencement of a new month. Astrology adherents view the New Moon as a favorable time for initiating new endeavors and establishing potent new goals.

The interval between two New Moons is known as a lunation. This occurs every month. The March 2022 New Moon is anticipated to occur on March 2.
