Micro-volunteering Day is an initiative of Help From Home, the world's foremost promoter of microactions since 2008.
Microvolunteering Day is annually observed on April 15. Its purpose is to raise awareness of microvolunteering and how it can empower deserving causes and individuals to improve the world through small actions. It is also an opportunity for micro-volunteering platforms, volunteer-involving organizations, and individuals to collaborate in a coordinated effort to expand their contributions and demonstrate the potential of the concept.
Micro-volunteering Day is an initiative of Help From Home, the world’s foremost promoter of microactions since 2008. Micro-volunteering Day was held for the first time in 2014, attracting numerous organisations and tens of thousands of individuals to devote some of their leisure time to charitable causes. Micro-volunteering Day’s primary objective is to engage individuals in micro-volunteering tasks; encourage organisations to support the concept; promote discussion on the idea; and encourage the sharing of photos and stories via #microday or #microvolunteering. What is microvolunteering then?
Micro-volunteering was popularised by The Extraordinaries in 2008. (Skills For Change). And since then, the concept of micro-volunteering has expanded, becoming a global force that connects individuals who wish to devote a portion of their time to more impactful use by performing a small volunteering task. Because micro-volunteering consists of “small, on-demand, no-commitment actions that benefit a worthy cause,” its popularity has increased significantly. One to thirty minutes is all that is required to complete the task.
There are typically two types of micro-volunteering: skilled, one-time duties and unskilled, recurring tasks. Whether by playing games to contribute to research initiatives or by volunteering via smartphone, it is possible to make a difference. You can perform micro-volunteering anywhere, including during television commercial breaks at home, in a traffic gridlock, during smoke breaks at work, or even while wearing your pyjamas in bed. This is an advantage of micro-volunteering. In addition, you can perform offline micro-volunteering, such as picking up trash while strolling down the street.
